The Osaka prefectural Tsunami/Storm Surge Disaster Prevention Station has been gaining in popularity since its opening in September last year with more than 10,000 people visiting to get a hands-on experience in coping with a simulated tsunami, imagined to occur when an earthquake rocks the Higashi Nankai and Nankai areas in Osaka. Such a disaster prevention facility to specifically enlighten the public on tsunami and high-tide waves is said to be uncommon in the nation.

The station is about 720 sq.m in size. Visitors are able to acquire correct knowledge of tsunami and high-tide waves from sounds, images and photographs on display and learn to cope with the situation generated by a quake and tsunami. They can also experience the bodily sensation of an air of a 3-m-high tsunami surging from the sea with a roaring sound by looking at a giant screen set up at the front, both left and right sides and the floor at the Tsunami Disaster Experience Theater (photo).
The admission-free station is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily except for Mondays.
