6/30/2010

Kippo News from Wednesday, Jun 16, 2010

Throughout its1,400-year history, Osaka has taken advantage of the presence of abundant water to develop advanced water transport systems, which brought about Osakas prosperity as Japans greatest center for trade and commerce. In order to control floods, overcome various environmental pollution problems experienced during Japan’s rapid economic growth period and achieve a safe and comfortable lifestyle, Osaka has promoted development of environmental technologies and eco-friendly urban development, thereby becoming an environmentally advanced water metropolis.

For the first time in World Expo history, the Shanghai Expo, which opened on May 1, features the Urban Best Practices Area, in which cities showcase their innovative practices. Osaka is  the only Japanese city selected to build an exhibition pavilion in the area.

Under the basic theme of Environmentally Advanced City ? The Challenge of Water Metropolis Osaka, Osaka Pavilion (photo) introduces advanced environmental technologies developed through collaboration between public and private sectors to help other world cities make environmental improvements, and promotes Osaka to the world as an attractive water metropolis.

Among all the sections of the pavilion, a section for advanced environmental technologies of Osaka and the Kansai Region is particularly popular among visitors. It mainly offers information about water and energy technologies with hands-on exhibits that can be touched and enjoyed. We can see many visitors gazing intently at the exhibits at this section (photo).

We would like many people to visit Osaka Pavilion, learn about the experiences and technologies of Osaka and the Kansai Region, and discover the attractiveness of water metropolis Osaka.
