KYOCERA AND SANYO SUPPLY PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULES TO OVERSEAS MEGA SOLAR POWER PLANTS
6/23/2010

Kippo News from Wednesday, Jun 16, 2010

An increasing number of overseas mega solar power plants are employing photovoltaic modules developed by Kansai-based battery makers.

Kyocera Corporation announced that it recently supplied 6 megawatts of photovoltaic modules for a mega solar power plant in Thailand. The power plant is one of the largest of its kind in Southeast Asiaphoto. The annual power generation by the photovoltaic modules is equivalent to the annual power consumption by approximately 5,000 ordinary houses in Thailand. The photovoltaic modules are expected to reduce CO2 emissions by roughly 4,500 tons annually.

Kyocera has a good track record in supplying photovoltaic modules for mega solar power plants. It has supplied a total of 50 megawatts of photovoltaic modules for three mega solar power plants in Spain. In Japan, Tokyo Electric Power, Kyushu Electric Power and Shikoku Electric Power have decided to use Kyocera photovoltaic modules.

In addition, SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. announced that it will supply 7.6 megawatts of photovoltaic modules to a mega solar power plant that is currently under construction in Italy. This is the largest order for photovoltaic modules ever received by the company. Although, the company’
s original HIT photovoltaic modules have the world's highest-class power generation efficiency, they have so far been used only in houses and other buildings with limited installation spaces, due to their high cost.
