A LANDMARK OF OSAKA TAKES FORM OF A ROBOT: TSUTENKAKU ROBO PROMOTES OSAKA WITH VIGOR
6/4/2010

Tsutenkaku is an equivalent of the Space Needle of Seattle, or the Tokyo Tower of Tokyo, and is a beloved landmark of Osaka that was built back in the 50s. It is 338 feet tall to the very top, and its observation deck is 287 feet high. The actual tower stands at the south end of Nipponbashi and the consumer electronics center of Den-Den Town.

According to their release, the Tsutenkaku Robo came to life on 2010, February 10th at 2:10 as a mobile “two-ten” tower hero with the mission to revitalize Osaka economy, promote tourism and to reduce crime in Osaka. This humorous and eye catching bipedal robot is able to walk, shake hands, make poses and joking remarks while bobbing its observation deck ‘head’ enthusiastically. He has now visited the Tokyo Tower, the Mayor of Osaka and was given recognition as an honorary citizen of Osaka.

This robot was brought to life by three organizations: The Nipponbashi Denden Town Robot Group, Tsutenkaku Tourism Company and Graphic Power International. Their main mission is to bring “genki’, energy to Osaka.
