OSAKA WILL BE PRESENT AT THE SHANGHAI WORLD EXPO!
5/28/2010
Kippo News from Wednesday, May 19, 2010
Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City exhibit at Expo 2010 Shanghai which opened just this month.
Under the theme “Better City, Better Life”, the Expo continues for 184 days from May 1 to October 31, in venues with an area of about 328 hectares along the shores of the Huangpu (Whangpoo) River, Shanghai.
One of the major characteristics of the Shanghai World Expo is the Urban Best Practices Area, where advanced urban initiatives are exhibited. Osaka is the only Japanese city that exhibits in this zone (see image). Besides the Osaka Pavilion, the Japan Pavilion and the Japan Industry Pavilion are also exhibited from Japan.
Under the theme “Environmentally Advanced City - The Challenge of Water Metropolis Osaka”, the Osaka Pavilion appeals to China and to the world with “Water Metropolis Osaka”, in which people have lived with, fought over and familiarized themselves with rivers.
At the entrance of the pavilion is a tunnel that reproduces the Great Naniwa Water Discharge Channel in full size; a cherry blossom image is projected on its wall. Visitors walk through galleries lined with water basins, enjoying the seasonal images of Osaka, until they enter the main theater (see image). Here is exhibited the past and present Osaka, which has developed through suffering from and overcoming pollutions and floods. There will also be exhibits on state-of-the-art technologies that will support the next generation of people’s lives. The attractive cities of Osaka and the Kansai region are also introduced, through food and through sightseeing and playing spots.
Through the exhibition at the Shanghai World Expo, Osaka seeks to attract more tourists and business people from Shanghai, China in particular and from the rest of the world in general.
