A SISTER CITY EVENT : THE FIRST JAPAN STUDENT NETWORK RECEPTION
12/4/2009
On November 6th, our City of Osaka office attended the “Japan Student Network Reception” which was co-hosted by the Chicago Japan America Society and the Chicago Sister City International Office. This event was initially planned with the aim of providing a networking opportunity for students of Japanese origin but in reality, out of the 150 attendees, half of the people were students, Japanese and American, and the other half were affiliated with Universities, businesses and government entities.
Consul General Hisaeda gave the opening remarks which were followed by greetings from Ms. Eileen Hubble, the Director of the City of Chicago, Mayor’s office of International Affairs.
Our office held a table top display booth together with the Sister City office and share with visitors our various PR materials. For some of the people visiting, this was their first time learning about Osaka’s sister city relationship with Chicago. Some were surprised to find out that our Osaka office had been in existence now for over 50 years and that the sister city relationship was now on its 36th year.
Although we unfortunately were not equipped with any programs, there were a number of students who wished to be supported in finding potential employers in Japan, as well as American students who inquired about short exchange trips to Japan.
There was an overwhelming number of young people who attended this event but we hope that we have planted some seeds of knowledge in their minds about Osaka.
