In cooperation with the Kansai Economic Federation, Osaka City's Waterworks Bureau is tapping the possibility of undertaking waterworks projects abroad with water-related companies in the Kansai region. The bureau has accumulated expertise on the whole waterworks system ranging from the source of water to faucets in the past century as a municipal office involved in waterworks projects. Kansai firms excel in individual elemental technologies such as reverse osmosis membranes, water supply pumps and the manufacture of steel piping.

The Waterworks Bureau and Kansai enterprises participated in forums and expositions this year in Vietnam, China and Singapore. They brought up the bureau's total system technology and reliability credited with the ISO22000 international qualification for food safety control that the bureau received as the first public waterworks office in the world along with outstanding elemental technologies of Kansai firms. The comprehensive introduction of expertise, credibility and technologies by the public and private sectors went a long way toward publicizing them. The bureau hopes to conclude a partnership agreement with a national waterworks company in Ho Chi Minh City and provide the Vietnamese side with water purification technology and expertise on the repair of facilities to block water leakage, among other things. It expects to undertake waterworks-related business on a consignment basis in Vietnam in the future.
