OSAKA PREFECTURE AND CITY WILL NOW SUPPORT ROBOT TESTS JOINTLY

Osaka Pref. and City jointly to support robot tests
The governments of Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City have announced that they would jointly establish "Osaka Robot Society Proof Experiment Initiative (ORi)," an organization to support proof experiments (practical tests) of robots on the streets and other public places. The move is to unify the support systems the prefectural government and the city government have been promoting separately to develop the uses of robots in order to form and enlarge their markets.
The new organization will support the hosting and conducting of proof experiments in society of robots in Osaka to increase the convenience for and effective utilization of know-how of researchers and businesses. Under its "Osaka Robot Strategy Promotion Project," the prefectural government of Osaka has developed the system to support the promotion of proof experiments and supported experiments, while the city government of Osaka has paid part of the costs of experiments conducted in the city.
The secretariat of the new organization will be opened at "Robot Laboratory" (Kita Ward, Osaka City), and Mr. Shu Ishiguro, leader of the Laboratory, will become its representative. The new organization will comprise the Kansai Economic Federation, Kinki Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI-Kansai) and the Kinki Bureau of Telecommunications in addition the prefectural and city governments of Osaka.
