The 16th Osaka European Film Festival, given high marks for its
artistic value, is set to run from Oct. 31 to Dec. 3 with its main site
shifting this year to ABC Hall in Fukushima Ward, Osaka City. Since it
started in 1994 to promote Japanese and European cultural exchanges,
the festival has screened films centering on the latest and unscreened
pictures outstanding in depth and in artistic and social value. It is
becoming a focus of attention as the largest class of its kind in Asia
originating in Kansai.
Scheduled to be screened are 10 selected high-profile movies from
European countries, including Greek and Romanian films making their
debut at the festival. Nine of the entries will be screened for the
first time in Japan. Previously, prominent movie people have been
invited to serve as an honorary festival chairman. This year, Spanish
film director Ventura Pons will assume the post.
